Thread starter Oddsocks Start date Dec 8, Oddsocks Ryder Cup Winner Dec 8, Bit of a weird one here, when I was fitted at AG they checked my grip size and suggested standard with two extra layers of tape, I'm curious as to how many additional layers you would need with standard grips before you crossed over onto mid size, Obviously it will vary on the thickness of tape used, but if we assumed all grip fitters used the standard thickness?

Zack, You might want to check a different store. I just had some midsize tour velvets installed on my wedges over the weekend. It was done at Golfsmith if that helps. Thanks for the replies. Here's a little more detail. I am ordering a club from callaways site. They offer different grips that you can get put on the club.

They offer the golf pride multi compound which I want. You can only get it in the standard size and then add wraps to your liking. There is no extra charge for this grip. That is why I want to get it from their site. If I had to pay extra for this grip I would just buy a midsize one and get it installed somewhere else. Hope this adds a little more info to my situation. Thanks, Zack. Wahoo June 28, I've heard 4. Have 'em put seven wraps on just to mess with the guy that has to install the grip.

Next time I will replace with a real mid size grip and experiment with more wraps. I could have gone larger on my 56 and I found the larger grip very comfortable for pitching and chipping.

I taper the layers of tape at the bottom when we do this to avoid bulk where the grip and shaft meet. A built up standard will have a firmer feel than a true mid, but we're not talking rock hard or anything like that.
